Mrs. R (Austin, TX Boudoir Photography)

Every now and then, I get a client who loves Black and White Photography.  Well, SO DO I!!!  It makes my heart smile to turn boudoir photos to black and white.  I believe black and white photos are classic and timeless.  They also help (in my opinion) focus the eye to the main subject, as it is no longer distracted by colors.

Mrs. R wanted a “Little Black Book” of Boudoir photographs to give her husband for Father’s Day and is kind enough to let me share a small segment of her photos with you.  This mother of two is absolutely Radiant and totally rocked it at her shoot (we also may have been totally rocking it out to Lady GaGa during her session).

Yes, while I do love black and white photographs, some insist on staying in color (especially with those eyes!).

Thank you, Mrs. R, for letting me share your Boudoir Photography Session!

Giddy about School Supplies (props for boudoir photography)

As a little girl, my favorite part of the school year (besides summer) was picking out my school supplies!  My mother probably got tired of taking me each year, since I wanted to look at EVERYTHING, but at least I was excited about the start of the school year!  I still enjoy shopping for school supplies (yes, you can call them office supplies, if you wish) and got absolutely giddy when I went to Office Depot to buy some needed photography supplies.  Luckily, my husband was there to keep me focused at the task at hand and I didn’t buy anything but the foam board.  This is a great reflector and we painted the back side black (yes, the favor was returned when Dylan was released in Home Depot for the black paint).  Black backgrounds help with boudoir photography, as it blends the shadows of the person into the photograph.  If you cannot tell where the body ends and the background begins, it slims the subject of the photograph.  Nifty, huh?  Here is an example:

Boudoir Party (Dallas Boudoir Photography)

Last weekend, I had an absolute BLAST shooting a full weekend of Boudoir Photography Sessions in Dallas!  The ladies were stunning in every way and really embodied what I love about my job: making women feel beautiful and enjoy life as it is!  The only down side is that I now feel the urge to run, run, run as they ALL have better legs than I do.  Here’s Proof:

New Heels for Boudoir Photography Sessions

I don’t have a huge prop bag, as I want every shoot to reflect the lady in the shoot and her personality.  It would be boring if every lady wore the same outfits and all had on the same props, which is why I highly encourage women considering a boudoir photography shoot to bring props that represent them or their spouse’s interests (as a side note, this past weekend, I shot a Boudoir Marathon: 5 ladies in one weekend.  FUN!  FUN!  FUN!  One of the ladies at the shoot MADE a bra out of crown royal bags, her husband’s favorite adult drink.  It was insanely cute and creative and I cannot wait to share it with you!  All that to say: bring props that reflect you or your partner’s interests!).

I do, however, bring a few pairs of high heels (Size 8) with me to every shoot.  They are absolutely necessary for any boudoir session.  Here is a quick sample of the latest two additions to the collection:Austin Boudoir Summer High Heels

Mrs. T (Dallas Boudoir Photography)

I feel like I’ve been shooting more outside of Austin, lately, than I have IN Austin, which is very exciting!  Mrs. T was so lively and really brought it on the variety of outfits!  That is something that adds so much personality and variety to each Boudoir session.

As a newlywed, she wanted to do a bridal themed photography shoot.  You can see the “something blue” she wore on her wedding day and her wedding viel wrapped around her in this photo:

Also on the Top ten list of what to bring to your boudoir photo shoot is your wedding ring.

This is why the more detail a lingerie piece has, the better:

For her “something to represent her husband,” she went with a referee-themed outfit.  What you cannot see up top is a fitted jersey of her husband’s favorite basketball team.

This last one was taken in the kitchen, wearing only an apron and high heels.

Thank you, Mrs. T, for letting me share your photos and for giving other ladies a few ideas of the possibilities for their own Boudoir Photography Session.

Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual Sale!

There are a few stores that really know lingerie that are available to all three of my Boudoir markets (while I am based in Austin, TX, I do often travel to Corpus Christi and Dallas, so am shooting there, as well).  One of my favorites is Victoria’s Secret, who is now having their Semi-Annual Sale!  For those of you out there who have been debating getting that piece you’ve been eyeing at their store, now is the time!

Their sale also includes some of their swim wear, so if you’ve been thinking about doing a pool or beach side shoot, go find a piece you’d love to be photographed in!  This is the perfect time of year for a Pool or Beach side Boudoir session, which are very playful and is a great place to let your personality shine through.

Mrs. D (Corpus Christi Boudoir Photography)

This Boudoir Photography session was in Corpus and well-worth the trip from Austin!  Mrs. D totally rocked it out!  This mother of two found a hotel suite with a huge window wall, which provided the best light!  Here are a few of my favorite photographs from her Boudoir session in Corpus.

Top 10 things to bring to your Boudoir Photo Shoot

The most common questions for me as a Boudoir photographer is what a lady should bring    to her shoot.  Here is a top ten list of items that will best help you have a wonderful shoot:

10) High Heels!  Oh, you thought everyone knew to bring this?  Maybe, but it never hurts to reemphasis that I will be shooting your heels, so make sure they’re hot!  I actually wear boots more than heels, which can add lots of personality to your shoot, too!  High heels define leg muscles, lengthen your legs, and make your booty just a little bit more perky.  Remember, you won’t be doing too much walking, so the higher the heel, the better the shot!

9) Your Wedding Ring!  Some women wear theirs everyday and some don’t.  For those who cannot work on a daily basis with their wedding band, please remember to bring it on your shoot.  Your husband likely spent months looking for the perfect ring just for you and is proud of his choice!  It helps to have it cleaned, as well, so it has an extra sparkle in your photos!

8) LBD!  While most people associate Boudoir with more revealing shots, I believe its all about femininity and celebrating your curves.  This means you can wear your Little Black Dress that your husband loves to see you in!  We’ll probably pull it up, emphasis the slit, or do an undressing scene with it.  It’s also a great starter piece, if you’re a little shy and need a bit to warm up to wearing your panties in front of the camera.

7) Props!  Props add so much personality and make the shoot reflect what makes you you!  Props are most successful when they represent what you love.  Do you love makeup?  Bring a tube of lipstick.  Do you love sitting by the pool?  Bring sunglasses and a big, floppy hat.  Just like you add accessories to your outfits everyday, think about props as your accessories to the theme of your Boudoir photo session.

6) Your husband’s best interests!  Your photographs will most likely be given as a gift to your husband, be it for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, his birthday, or an anniversary.  Knowing that, plan a theme based around his interests and passions.  If your husband loves cars, call your friend with the great looking car or call the local vintage car club and see if they’ll let you borrow it for the afternoon.

5) Fishnets and stockings!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE how stockings and fishnets photograph.  To me, it adds a classic feel to the photos and really completes certain outfits.

4) Jewelry!  The Jewelry you bring should be a statement piece.  The chunkier the jewelry, the better!  Boudoir Photography is about letting your femininity shine through and the only thing more feminine than jewelry is….

3) Lingerie!  Bring a variety of your favorite lingerie.  Corsets have a ton of details.  Your favorite bra and panty set that teases your husband when you’re out on the town.  That piece hidden in the back of your closet or that piece you’ve been eyeing at the local lingerie store, but haven’t bought, yet.  Teddies, slips, and anything else you feel sexy in.  Please keep in mind that bringing 5 different sets of black bra and panty combinations will not add variety to your Little Black Book.

2) Fabulous Hair and Make-up (and whatever you may need for touch-ups)!  One of the BEST things you can bring to your shoot is your professionally styled hair and make-up.  Think about being in your friend’s wedding – you probably got your hair and/or makeup done professionally because you knew your photo was being taken.  The same applies to your Boudoir Photo shoot.  Professional hair stylists know how to keep your hair in place for hours, regardless of temperature, movement or humidity.  Professional Make-up artists know how to perfect make-up so that it shows up in your photos and make your skin look flawless.  They also have access to and can put on fake eyelashes, which will make your eyes POP!

1) PERSONALITY!  I want nothing more than for your boudoir session to reflect you!  So BRING IT!

(Added Bonus: Bring your favorite cocktail.  😀 )Boudoir Pearls Red WIne

I hope this helps to answer of few of your questions on what to bring!  Ladies that have already had a boudoir shoot, what would you add to this list?

Enjoy your weekend,

Mylah Renae
